Thalion - Another Sun (2004)
Review added July 15/07.
Here is a very promising young band... Brazil's Thalion shows a great deal of creativity and instrumental ability. For those into "power" melodic metal with a bit of classical and progressive influence, this is a nice little album. The technicality and speed usually don't get in the way of musicality. And there is a good sense of variety, whether in terms of tonality or delicacy vs. "heaviness."
Still, the knock is that there are occasional subtle signs of immaturity - at times, for example, a less than convincing wedding of music and vocal arrangement, and abrupt seams in transitions between song sections.
Alexandra Liambos shows good vocal ability, although there seems to be something of an undistorted harshness when she tries to bring the power.
It's three years since this release; it is to be hoped that the early promise will be backed up with something more developed and mature.
3 stars.
